Overview

FRC Computer Setup is an installer orchestrator. The README's line is: one download, check the tools you want, click Install. It does not ship WPILib, NI, Limelight, PathPlanner, or anyone else's binaries. It downloads official latest stable files and checks SHA-256 or ETag plus size. The license is MIT. There is no Vercel app. Driver Station is Windows-only.

Problem

A new team laptop needs a stack of vendor tools, each with its own installer and its own UAC prompt. Packing those installers into git would freeze someone else's binaries in the repo. The wizard leaves the binaries with the vendors and only automates the ones that can install silently.

What he built

Release builds are listed for Windows x64, Windows ARM, macOS Apple silicon, macOS Intel, Linux x64, and Linux ARM. The first screen is a checklist. Nothing installs unless it is checked. Windows asks for admin once. Each checked tool then installs silently, followed by a path or version self-check, one silent retry, and a report.

If a vendor has no silent installer, that row is marked "needs vendor page" instead of opening extra dialogs. The README names NI Game Tools, Phoenix, REV, Limelight on Windows, Git on macOS and Linux, and WPILib without a CLI as cases that can land there.

The 6925 checklist in the README is Git, WPILib, Driver Station, PathPlanner, AdvantageScope, Choreo, Elastic, Limelight Hardware Manager, Phoenix Tuner X, an optional second copy of VS Code, and an optional clone of 6925-RobotCodeUpdated. PhotonVision is intentionally absent because the team robot code uses Limelight. WPILib already ships VS Code, so the Microsoft VS Code checkbox is only for a second copy.

A preview that does not download vendor files is go run ./cmd/frc-computer-setup --demo. The CLI installs nothing unless tool ids are passed.

Process

Pins are refreshed with go run ./cmd/refresh-manifest, using GitHub stable releases, the VS Code stable channel, and WPILib installer URLs taken from release notes. The module is github.com/sahil-patel-2011/frc-computer-setup on Go 1.22. NI images, Limelight OS images, and WPILib ISOs are not stored in the git repo.
